There are SO MANY exciting things happening along the Natural Sciences Loop in 2022 that we thought we’d help you out by compiling just 5 from the Quilpie Shire to give you a head start for your trip planning.
- Take in a show
A Night show that is! Take your seat on the expansive green space in front of the supersized outdoor screen at the back of the Visitor Information Centre, for the brand new Quilpeta Night Show.
Meet your digital host, Q the Stone Curlew who will guide your through an interactive journey of the story of Quilpie stepping back some 95 million years ago. Along the way you’ll meet giant Titanosaurs Cooper and George and learn about the Quilpie’s First Nation Maranganji people. You’ll discover the colourful Boulder Opal story and early pastoral settlements. It’s a wonderful introduction to Quilpie, it’s people and the beauty of the Channel Country.
The night show will screen Tuesday’s, Thursday’s and Sundays from Tuesday 10th May. Each ticket will include entry + one beer/wine/soft drink + individual nibbles boats.

- Prep with the whole family
If you haven’t already then there is no better time that 2022 to visit the Eromanga Natural History Museum. And the best way to experience the museum as a family is to book a Family Prep Program.
You will start with the Australian Dinosaur Giants Tour and then join the Museum’s fossil Technicians in the Workshop to get some hands on with experience with an hour of Preparation on some of the fossils in their collection. You could even find yourself working on a 90 million year old Dinosaur! That’s enough to make kids and adults alike say WOW!

- Old pub with a new look
The South Western Hotel, or better known as the ‘Toompine Hotel’ has had quite the facelift over the last couple of years and it is looking forward to welcoming some visitors in 2022. To stay up to date with their reopening date make sure you like their Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/toompinepub
However until then Toompine is still a fantastic place camp, fish, play tennis, access opal fossicking fields and even enjoy one of their annual events like the Easter Gunshoot or the Polocrosse Carnival.
- Camping at Hell Hole Gorge
Leave the hustle behind and spend a few days camping in one of the most spectacular National Parks in Outback Queensland.
Hell Hole Gorge National Park is located 170km north of Quilpie via Adavale. Book yourself a camping permit with Qld National Parks before you travel and enjoy a relaxing few days bushwalking, swimming, camping, taking photos and making some incredible memories.

Quilpie Shire is lucky enough to be home to an abundance of bird species and in 2022 you can get your hands on our brand new off the presses Bird Guide.
Available in the Information Centre from March 2022 this new guide will give details on what bird species call the Quilpie Shire home and a list of the best places to see them – and these spots have been verified by the locals so you know they are good.
