Quilpie is all about families travelling and family friendly events. And boy do we have some doozies coming up! Get your diaries and pens because you’ll want to take notes.
Bash break on Brolga
The July school holidays are a great time to travel to Quilpie! Why you ask? Well, from the 1st to the 4th July Quilpie will come alive with both big and small events that will keep the entire family entertained.
On Thursday 1st or Friday 2nd you can book in to one of the Queensland Music Trails shows of ‘Echoes in the Dust’ at Baldy Top 7km from Quilpie.
Experience mind-bending musical virtuosity and astonishing visual theatre with the breathtaking desert backdrop of Baldy Top at twilight. Grab a camp chair and your favourite refreshments and join Topology and Dead Puppet Society for what promises to be the most memorable twilight concert experience of the year.
Saturday 3rd July is THE day – the day we celebrate with the ‘Bash Break on Brolga’. Head to Quilpie’s main street, ‘Brolga Street’ and enjoy the markets that line the street, the busking, music, art and even shearing demonstrations. Good wholesome fun!
Over the weekend you may even see some famous and some not so famous (amateur) golfers in town as the Outback Queensland Golf Masters are taking place this weekend too! If you visit Free Junior Clinics – Outback Queensland Masters (outbackqldmasters.com) you can even book the kids in for some coaching clinics. Who knows, you may be chauffeuring around the next Tiger Woods and be none the wiser.
More events are currently still to be confirmed so make sure you visit (1) Visit Quilpie Shire – Your Outback Adventure | Facebook to stay up to date.
Bash Break on Brolga Fest is funded under the Year of Outback Tourism Events Program
Intrust Super Cup
Calling all Rugby League fans – The Intrust Super Cup is coming to Quilpie!
Saturday 17th July make your way to Quilpie’s John Waugh Park to see the Ipswich Jets take on the Redcliffe Dolphins.
The future stars of Rugby League will be playing through the day keeping the crowd entertained before the big match kicks off around 3pm (TBC). Canteen will be in operation through the day and bar will be open from around 3pm.
If you are looking for a fun filled family weekend for the whole family then boy do we have the event for you!
Make your way to Quilpie for the annual District Show on Friday 10th & Saturday 11th September because 2021’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
Friday is the Show holiday in Quilpie and workshops are being organised for kids to attend through the day. Come night time, see all the thrills and spills of the rodeo action as the toughest cowboys in the west battle to stay on the 8 seconds and take home the prize. Food available with bar and music until late.
Saturday morning the Show is in full swing with plenty to do for the whole family including stalls of all kinds, an all-day bar and canteen, show pavilion and great entertainment.
Highlights for 2021 will be The Crack Up Sisters entertaining the crowd with their typical Aussie humour mixed with circus tricks, Aussie FMX with their incredible motorbike stunts and Let ‘er Buck – where future cowboys and cowgirls buck out the toughest inflatable animals around.
2021’s Show theme is ‘Home Grown – showcasing sheep and wool revival’ and to celebrate this theme the main event of the Show will be a Shearers Reunion and Quick Shears event on Saturday.
Whether you have shorn, pressed or picked up in one of the many sheds in the Quilpie Shire past or present you are invited back to Quilpie to catch up and tell stories of the Wool industry gone by.
For those returning you may be interested to turn the shears on again and take part in the Quick Shears competition. There are a few categories to be announced with the Open event being the main – but remember; SPEED WINS!
Come Saturday night you will be treated to the best fireworks display in the west then dance long into the night with great music from Russell Dewhurst and a bar til late.
For an outback experience with true country hospitality, make the Quilpie and District Show your big weekend out!
